SOF International English Olympiad (IEO)

The International English Olympiad (IEO) is an annual competitive examination conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) for students of classes 1 to 12 in English language. The motive behind organizing IEO is to provide an opportunity to the young learners to compete at the international level and also hone their skills. IEO comprises of two levels: Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 is conducted offline in the respective schools of the participants whereas Level 2 is conducted online. The pattern for both the levels is objective type with a mix of multiple-choice questions, fill in the blanks and short answer questions.

About SOF IEO

The SOF International English Olympiad (IEO) is an English language examination conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) in collaboration with British Council. The examination aims to test the candidate’s proficiency in the use of English Grammar only. The SOF IEO is open to students from Classes 1-12 and is conducted at two levels: Level 1& Level 2.

The SOF IEO is a widely recognized English grammar proficiency exam. The SOF IEO provides an opportunity for students to showcase their proficiency in the English language and also win exciting prizes.

In its simplest form, the International English Olympiad (IEO) is an English language test for students of Class 1 to 12. It is conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) annually in India and abroad. The IEO is a one-hour written examination divided into two sections:

Section I: Word and Structure Knowledge, Reading, Spoken and Written Expression

Section II: Achievers Section

The IEO tests students’ skills in English reading, writing and grammar. The emphasis is on communication and the use of the English language, rather than rote learning and correct grammar only.

Students can register for the IEO through their school only. The examination fee is Rs 125/- per student.

The IEO 1st level exam is held in October every year and the results are declared in December.

Eligibility criteria for Level 1

To be eligible for the Level 1 International English Olympiad, students must be in classes between 1 to 12.

Eligibility criteria for Level 2

To be eligible for the SOF IEO Level 2, students must qualify the Level 1 Exam and Level 2 exam is only for Grade 3 to 12.

SOF IEO Important Dates

The International English Olympiad (IEO) is an annual competitive examination in English language proficiency for students of Class 1 to 12. The IEO Examination comprises of two levels: Level 1 and  Level 2. The important dates related to the SOF IEO are as follows:

  • IEO Last date of Registration – 20th August
  • IEO Exam Date – 22nd September 2022, 14th October 2022, and 1st November 2022

Note: School can select one date as per their convenience to conduct IEO exam in their premises.
